Aegis Logistics has acquired Shell Gas (India) Pvt Ltd from Royal Dutch Shell for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition process will be completed in 3 months.

This acquisition marks Aegis entry in the commercial and industrial LPG business, which isn’t subject to government-set price caps on LPG sales in the retail market.

Aegis Logistics Ltd provides supply chain management services to the petroleum and chemical industries in India. The company offers liquid logistics, gas logistics, and auto LPG retailing services. It operates a retail network of auto LPG stations in India, under the brand name of Aegis Autogas.

Shell Gas has been operating in India since 1993 and has a 2,700 metric-ton import terminal at Pipavav and a 60-ton filling plant at Kheda in western Gujarat. Shell is primarily active in Maharashtra and Gujarat.

Meanwhile, Royal Dutch Shell is selling some of its business as a part of its restructuring programme aimed at increasing profitability and efficiency. Earlier in Sept’09, it sold its fuel and lubricant business in Greece. It is also selling three of its refineries to Essar Oil.
